Waiting Room, New North Western Depot, Chicago

The North Western Depot is located on West Madison

Street between Canal and Clinton Streets. It is the most

modern terminal in the world, possessing all the accom-

modations of a modern hotel with the exception 0f the

sleeping apartments. It was opened to the punlic on June

6, 1911, total cost including site, approaches and track

elevations was over $24,000,000.

Michigan Boulevard Looking North from Monroe Street, Chicago

Michigan boulevard is one of the best know

streets in Chicago. All buildings are of the highest

class of Architecture and very striking in appear-

ance. Prominent buildings shown on this view are

the Tower Building, Michigan Boulevard Building

and Public Library.

State and Madison Sts., "Busiest Corner" in the World, Chicago

State and Madison Streets is in the very center of the

retail shopping district and is considered the busiest cor-

ner in the world. It is said that more people pass this

corner in 24 hours than any other spot in the world.

The Art Institute and Ferguson Fountain, Chicago

The Art Institute is located in Grant Park, facing

Michigan Avenue at the foot of Adams Street, the present

building being finished in 1893. It contains valuable

collections of sculpture and 0ther objects of art, ranking

with the best on the continent.

Post Office and Federal Building, Chicago

The Post office occupies a full city square surrounded by

Clark, Adams and Dearborn Steets and Jackson Boule-

vard. Construction commenced in 1897, completed in

1905; cost $4,757,000. The building is 311 by 386 feet, con-

taining 150,000 square feet in its basement floor. The

main building is eight stories high and the dome section

contains eight more stories, making sixteen in all; the

total height is 297 feet, depth of foundation 76 feet.

Palmer House, Chicago. Palmer

House is one of the most widely known hotels

in the United States. It is located at the cor-

ner of State and Monroe streets, and is owned

by the Potter Palmer estate. During certain

months of the year its sample room floors

resemble a "fair" and at such times mer-

chants from all over the country come to Chi-

cago to make advance purchases.

The Edgewater Beach Hotel is located on the

North Shore, about seven miles from the center

of the city. It is built in the form of a Greek

Cross without an inside court and without an

inside room. A notable feature is the Marine

Cafe and Beach Walk over-looking Lake Mich-

igan.
